A little British Sign Language can go a very long way when it comes to basic communication with deaf customers or employees. This training is fun and informative and will help your staff begin to understand how to communicate with sign language users. The training and vocabulary can be tailored to meet the needs of your organisation and your customers.
Our Start to Sign British Sign Language courses will teach your staff words and phrases that are likely to be used in your work place.
Topics covered include Work survival signs, the Sign Language alphabet, Deaf/deaf culture, Grammatical structures of British Sign Language to enable the use of vocabulary in contextual signing situations.
This is a CACDP British Sign Language course accredited which leads to a recognised qualification in BSL. It is designed for people who wish to learn BSL to communicate with Deaf people on a range of topics that involve simple, everyday language use.
The course is taught over 50 - 60 hours and can be taught in blocks, weekly days, half days or alternative arrangements can be tailored to suit your requirements.
The course is for a maximum of 12 students. Typically the tuition will take place at your premises. If this is not suitable then we can book a venue for you.
The curriculum consists of three units:
Unit 101 - Introduction to BSL:
Unit 102 - Conversational BSL:
Unit 103 - BSL at Work:
Each unit will be assessed. The assessments involve a conversation with the tutor that will be videoed with the tape then being sent off to CACDP for marking/validation. These will take place during the course.
If all three assessments are passed then the candidate will receive the Level 1 Certificate in BSL. If someone is unsuccessful in passing one of the units, they can will be able to take the unit again at a later date.
